Au Pair means "in exchange". The Au Pair stays with a family in a foreign country primarily to learn the language and to gain knowledge about customs and culture. In exchange for being able to stay with the family, the au pair helps with the children and will also do light housework.
You can not expect a fully trained childminder. But an au pair has babysitting experience.
